Advices for parents

Your children are no more safe on the Internet than alone in the streets of a big city. Xooloo is a Parental Control Software which protects your children from inappropriate contents on the Internet.

However, it is necessary to accompany your child in his/her discovery of the virtual world and to be careful when others communicate with him/her via the Internet.

Please find below some advices to make sure that the Internet is not anymore synonymous with danger, but with leisure, communication and education.

  1. Install preferably the computer in a shared room to surf with other members of the family:

If your child has a computer in his/her bedroom, get interested in what he/she does on the Internet, ask him/her regularly to show you his/her favourite sites or the improvement of his/her blog...

  2. Discuss about Internet dangers:

Explain to your child that there are also ill-intentioned people in this virtual world. Make sure your child is aware that the information provided on the Internet is not always true.

  3. Set up an agreement with your child:
    • He/She should not accept any appointment, mail, video, or image from an unknown or suspicious Internet user.
    • He/She should not participate to chat rooms before at least the age of 11 years old.
    • He/She should not communicate his/her personnel details (name, telephone number, address...) and your credit card numbers.
    • He/She should always use a nickname.
    • He/She should always ask an adult when in doubt about an Internet user behaviour or about an Internet site content.

You can promise your child that if he/she respects these different rules, you will not need to invade his/her private life (read his/her e-mail, his/her blog, or communications with his/her friends...)
