Advice for parents
Your children are no safer on the Internet than alone in the streets of a big city. Xooloo is a Parental Control Software that protects your children from inappropriate content on the Internet.
Nonetheless, it is necessary that you accompany your child in his/her discovery of the virtual world and pay very close attention to those who communicate with your child over the Internet.
Below is some advice to make sure that the Internet is no longer synonymous with danger, but with leisure, communication and education.
- Try to place the family computer in a shared room so that you can surf as a family:
If your child has a computer in his/her bedroom, get interested in what he/she does on the Internet, ask him/her regularly to show you his/her favourite sites or changes to his/her blog...
- Discuss the dangers of the Internet:
Explain to your child that the virtual world is also home to people of ill intent. Make sure your child is aware that the information provided on the Internet is not always true.
Keep abreast of Internet dangers by checking different sites such as www.livemark.fr/index.php?lang=en
- Set up an agreement with your child:
- He/she should not accept any meetings, mails, videos, or images from an unknown or suspicious Internet user.
- He/she should not participate in chat rooms before the age of 11 years old at the earliest.
- He/she should not communicate his/her personal details (name, telephone number, address...) or your credit card numbers.
- He/she should always use a nickname.
- He/she should always ask an adult when in doubt about an Internet user's behaviour or about website content.
You can promise your child that if he/she respects these different rules, you will not need to invade his/her private life (read his/her e-mail, his/her blog, or communication with his/her friends...)
- Suggest him/her websites for children (colouring, games for children, music, drawings) matching is age and needs:
We suggest that you supplement the parental control with a secure search engine of websites for children : www.xooloo.com
